For privacy purposes we”ll call the inquiring bride, Christy…
Christy found Touch of Class Alterations on Wedding Wire.Com and read numerous online reviews.

At Touch Of Class, we want every bride to receive valuable perspective and knowledge about how alterations should be done professionally and which alterations make the most sense.
When a bride is completely comfortable and knows exactly why an alteration should be made, then and only then, should prices be quoted and the decision to move forward, should be made. With our low prices and unique perspective from an experienced seamstress, our brides feel more comfortable.
After all, most brides are working on a budget, so lower prices does translate to less stress, and more money for the wedding reception or honeymoon!
By working with Mari and her staff, each bride is working with a team of independent seamstresses and a designer with over 25 years experience…
Another way Mari makes her customers more comfortable, is with the “total package experience”.
Touch Of Class Alterations guarantees each bride, that their wedding dress will be completed on time with fast turnaround time…
Touch Of Class also guarantees there will be no hidden fees and that they use only the highest quality industrial machines and professional equipment.
While many brides do receive decent service at larger stores, it is undeniable that many brides discover delays in receiving their wedding gown.
While it seems hard to believe, even reputable stores, don’t actually guarantee that a wedding gown order will ship and arrive on time for the wedding completion date.
In addition, many brides have reported that after receiving their dress extremely later than expected, they had to go to a different store or an independent seamstress, just to get the wedding dress alterations done in time for their wedding.
Although many brides initially feel comfortable when ordering their wedding gown, anxiety and stress almost certainly occurs when a gown order is late, or the alterations are not done, with the wedding just weeks away.
In regard to your inquiry, yes we can do the hem for your Maggie Sottero gown based on the pictures you sent it would cost approx $60.
We have thousands of brides since 2005 and certainly can do the Hem alteration you’ve requested, for almost $150 less than the $200 you were quoted.
As a designer and bridal seamstress with 25 yrs experience, Mari has corrected wedding gown alterations, as well as completed many last minute wedding dress emergencies, which were the result of a wedding dress purchase elsewhere.
With this in mind, I can tell you with certainty, that many brides pay too much for alterations….
Also, many brides report waiting just to get into their bridal fitting months later, and feeling “rushed” through the process, when busy stores sometimes cannot handle the workload and overbooked schedule they create.
In regard to possibly re-styling your Maggie Sottero dress:
We recently helped another bride that recently wanted to re-style her wedding gown.
This bride was quoted over $300.00 to add organza-fabric to her Maggie Wedding dress.
She was also quoted $200.00 to press the wedding dress, and $100.00 to add bustle points for the wedding reception…
At the store this bride inquired at, the salesperson explained that “this was the best price” and that it would be tough to find a better price anywhere!
The salesperson also explained that the organza-tulle fabric wasn’t “really necessary” cause the gown looked great anyway. She further elaborated that the cost for this type of alteration was expensive because of the degree of difficulty…
However, this bride wanted to make sure that she was getting the right information and the best price…
So she requested that the salesperson return to the other room to make sure this was the best that store could do…
Once again… The salesperson wandered off into a distant office in the back of the store…
Next, the bride in question overheard a conversation through the thin walls… the subject of which was her dress…
Basically the owner of the store would not lower the price and sounded angry. Words were thrown around that made the bride feel like she was being extremely cheap.
The conversation ended abruptly with the manager/owner declaring that there would be no discount and the “price is what it is”…
The total was approximately was $600.o0 plus tax with materials. In addition, a $25 fitting fee would be required bringing the total with tax closer to $650
This bride, although under a time schedule and stress with her wedding date approaching, decided to explore other options and contacted Touch Of Class Alterations…
She decided if she was going to go against the stores advice (not to re-style her dream Maggie Sottero gown), then she would need to take her business elsewhere…
All this bride had requested, was a better price and to have her alterations done with a store that wasn’t actually against doing the dress restyle in the first place.
She had already tried on gowns at 4 other bridal shops and wedding salons before finding her dream Maggie Sottero dress, now she just wanted to make it unique with the look she envisioned for her custom creation.
After her experience at the local east valley boutique, she came to Touch Of Class Alterations unsure if she could really get the look she wanted at a price she could afford.
After all, her Maggie Sottero gown was over budget at $2100
After her initial fitting and consultation, this bride was extremely happy with Mari, and the staff at Touch Of Class.
She will be doing a review after her wedding.
Why? Because we are doing the dress restyle for $200, steaming and pressing her dress for $50… and doing a 5-point french bustle for $50!
(Touch Of Class Alterations does bustle points for only $10 each)
The bride also decided to have sewn in cups added to enhance the fit in the bust line for $25 The total was $375 which is approx. $300 less than the quoted price from the boutique that had a conversation at this brides expense.
Many stores perhaps would charge over $700.00 for the above alterations…
Also, Mari didn’t charge a $25 fitting fee… for the bride or her bridesmaids… which saved an additional $50 compared to other stores…
Two of her bridesmaids are getting their bridesmaid dress hems done for only $25 each…instead of $80…
We share this quick story to demonstrate that there are always alternatives for brides that are on a budget
The entire staff at Touch Of Class works very hard to ensure each bride receives ample time for her bridal fitting and the lowest possible prices for gowns, alterations and dress modifications.
Touch Of Class Alterations truly cares about saving brides money while offering a higher level of service…
But don’t take our word for it, read the reviews on wedding wire.com and merchant circle from brides that have experienced the difference an independent designer and seamstress can make.
The common misconception many brides have is that a wedding dress designer or seamstress that offers custom gowns is more expensive than a salon or store…
The truth is the exact opposite, many designers and seamstresses can offer custom gowns that rival designer labels for less.
Or a local designer can re-style a wedding dress and do the alterations to create a fit that both flatters and fits the brides budget.
The wedding planning process can be a stressful time for brides, without knowing where to find the best values for wedding dresses and bridal alterations.
Since brides often have their dress alterations done as one of the last steps in the wedding planning process, it is important to have a stress free experience with professional and affordable help with the wedding day approaching. With all due respect to large national bridal stores, the fact is, many of the brides we assist and interview describe that the service was better before they purchased the wedding dress, than afterward, when the alterations were performed.
Many brides report crowded rooms, long wait times and high prices quoted to get the alterations done.
Since most alterations fittings are scheduled with the wedding less than one or two months away, many brides feel pressure to just pay the prices quoted at the bridal fitting offered from a larger store.
We know many brides pay full asking price for alterations, because Mari has helped thousands of brides for over 10 years in phoenix. Many stores and bridal shops are overbooked, crowded and understaffed… especially when it comes to assisting brides with their dress after the sale. Many brides are frustrated after waiting for weeks to get in for their wedding dress alterations, to discover that their appointment time is not honored.
Since many wedding stores have more salespeople than seamstresses , many brides must wait for over an hour after arriving for their bridal fitting.
One bride recently reported waiting over 2.5 hours in a store that was “running a little behind”…
In addition, although many brides are happy with the dress they purchased, the experience of feeling rushed through a bridal fitting, or even worse, encountering a rude seamstress or know-it-all that doesn’t truly listen to the bride, can leave many brides in tears. Again, not every bride that is upset in a wedding store or boutique is a bride-zilla!
Touch Of Class offers a higher level of service by appointment only, so brides are never rushed…
And they quote alterations prices before any work is done or any gown is purchased.
The seamstress will quote alterations cost for each gown you try on…before a purchase is made…
Touch Of Class offers more than just custom gowns and wedding alterations. They offer bridal designer labels and off the rack bargains too.
According to Mari: “We hope to educate more brides that an independent designer and seamstress can offer more affordable options to brides that are on a budget…”
This way, brides can avoid impulse spending on a wedding dress and bridal alterations that break their bank…or their credit card!
“The fact is most brides purchase a wedding gown at one of the 1st bridal shops they visit, without ever consulting an independent designer or seamstress. With this blog, numerous listing on the top wedding sites and our articles… we hope to change that” Mari concluded
This is where our wonderful brides and clients can help…
If you love Touch Of Class Alterations’ prices and have experienced their service, please leave a review online!
This way other brides can discover the options and savings that exist through an independent designer and seamstress.
Brides can learn more about Touch Of Class Alterations on our website, where we offers affordable options on both wedding gowns and alterations…
At Touch Of Class We Are Glad To Assist Brides With Their Alterations At Prices That Are 50% Lower Than Most Stores…
However, what most brides aren’t aware of, is that we also offer wedding dresses and and gowns from trunk shows, distributor close-outs and store samples that can be purchased brand new (off the rack) for 50% – 70% less than retail prices… (stock varies)
Plus, since we carry a limited but high quality rack selection, brides don’t have to wait 6-9 months to receive a wedding gown order and the alterations can be completed many months prior to the wedding… instead of at the most stressful time, right before the wedding.
If a bride wants to double check her dress fit months later, she can return for a free fitting.
Touch of Class Alterations can customize any wedding dress, and provide alterations on any gown for a fit that flatters while staying within a brides budget….
Many brides in fact, receive their gown too late for alterations as the wedding is too close. I recently posted an article “wedding story” from the current issue of Phoenix Bride & Groom; Magazine on our blog…
The story tells of a bride that was told by a major local wedding store in AZ, that her gown alterations could NOT be completed in time for her wedding…
This bride was informed that her dress would not be completed only two weeks before her wedding! After spending over $2200.00 on her wedding dress order, this was not a pleasant surprise…
Why pay more for the wedding dress or the alterations, without at least comparing price and seeing the quality on display at an independent designer and seamstress?
Many boutiques and stores in fact, do not adequately disclose the cost for alterations when selling a gown…
Most brides cannot even get in for a fitting to find out the alterations costs until months later.
Touch Of Class Alterations is committed to preventing issues and assisting brides, while saving them money for their wedding:)
Thanks for taking the time to check out the Touch Of Class Alterations Blog
And congratulations on your upcoming wedding
